Check Your Windows
February 28, 2011 | in Driver Safety For You & Your FamilyThis morning, I experienced a scary driving situation. I left home and made it through a few busy streets and then onto the freeway. Entering the freeway, I noticed a dangerous driving situation that I had put myself in. I was merging into traffic on a major freeway and my side view mirrors showed a clear view of the pavement. By then I realized my terrible mistake: I did not check my mirrors once I entered my vehicle.
This driving situation reminded me of the DefensiveDriving.com online driver safety course, which prepares drivers for the driving task by addressing the following items:
When you get into your car, are you prepared to drive?
Did you buckle your seat belt? Have you insured that your mirrors are properly set, that you have enough gas in your tank, that you can see clearly out your windows?
That’s just the beginning of the driving task. Merging is the highest risk maneuver that one can make on a freeway. By not checking my mirrors before I left home, I could have been involved in an terrible accident.
Taking DefensiveDriving.com does not have to mean that you have received a citation. Not only does the approved defensive driving course work for ticket dismissal, it is a great refresher course.
As soon as I made it safely to work, I reviewed the DefensiveDriving.com merging with traffic video and wanted to share it with everyone:
Don’t forget-This video and more is available via registration at www.DefensiveDriving.com.
