Defensive Driving – Now there’s a thought
February 1, 2011 | in Defensive Driving TipsDefensive Driving courses are normally thought of as a necessary evil towards ticket dismissal. However, the concept goes far beyond that. Have you often wondered how “that” person keeps a drivers license? I do. Some seem to have a total disregard for their life and those driving around them. Rapid lane changes with no signal. Speeding through neighborhoods, etc…The strange thing is these people seem to think they’re the best drivers on the road.
Taking a defensive driving course can protect you from these people. Just like many people take a self-defense class to defend themselves, a defensive driving course can defend you from the self proclaimed “best drivers on the road”.
I have found myself more aware of my surroundings and I ask myself, “what can that driver do right now to suddenly cause me to change from my current driving”? I guess some people get in a car and believe they are protected by the machine that surrounds them. I look at it differently. Watching for hazards. Driving smoothly. Anticipating what can happen on the road and how can I avoid it. Sudden, quick maneuvers are the essence of non-defensive driving. If you make a sudden move, you can bet that the people around you will probably do it too. Then what do you have? Potential chaos.
If its been a while, look into a defensive driving course as the same as you would a self defense class. You might just learn something that will protect you in the very near future.
