Everyone SpeedsOctober 19, 2010 | in The Speeder In You
Everyone speeds. Whether its just a couple miles or so over the speed limit or whether you believe the +10 theory. But what happens when you are going over 100mph and get caught?
I started thinking of this when I read about an 82 year old woman getting caught going 110. 28mph over her age. When she was pulled over, she was asked why she was traveling so fast. “I was on my way to an appointment”. No matter she was cited for doing 55 mph over the speed limit.
In Florida, the civil penalty for going 50mph over the speed limit is $1000 plus a court date. Now I’m not sure how the judge ruled on this, but the last Florida Traffic School Course I took did not include a section on how to drive over 100mph. If she was in Virginia, she would be facing a $2500 fine and mandatory jail time.
Each state has their own penalties for speeding. However if you’re caught driving in excess of 100mph, in addition to some pretty hefty fines, license suspensions and restrictions and possible jail time, you will likely have to spend some money on a lawyer, pay court fee’s and probably have to take some sort of State approved defensive driving course, and you can bet you won’t be getting any discounts for auto insurance.← Too many distracted drivers | DefensiveDriving.com Upcoming Event →
