Getting Fit Safely
January 21, 2011 | in My Kind of DrivingEvery year hundreds of thousands make the resolution to get fit and healthy for the current year. For those of you who will be cycling or skating those holiday pounds off, here are some road tips to keep in mind.
Bicycles share the road with everybody. Sometimes they must share the through traffic lanes, but occasionally they are given special lanes:
- A bicycle lane is indicated by a solid white line and a sign on either side of a street. Don’t enter a bike lane unless you are making a right turn
at a corner or other entrance, such as a driveway. Watch for bicycles before entering a bicycle lane. You may park in a bicycle lane unless a sign says “NO PARKING.”
- Pedestrians are not allowed in a bicycle lane when there are sidewalks. Drivers of motorized bicycles should use bike lanes carefully to avoid collisions with bicycle riders.
