How I Killed Two Birds With One Stone
November 4, 2011 | in Drive Like MEI am one of many drivers who have experienced road rage. One one occasion, I’d had a not so good day at work. I was frantically cutting in and out of traffic trying to get home and relax. I’d gotten a little more irritated when a driver was going 20 mph on a 40 mph street. I sped around him, not realizing the yellow light had turned red. As you would expect, my irritation level went up a notch when i noticed the red and blue lights whirling in my rear view. Of course I received a ticket for running the light. My day had gone from bad to worse. So much for relaxation.
Since I was eligible for ticket dismissal, I completed a 6-hour state approved defensive driving course with DefensiveDriving.com. There is a section that refers to keeping your emotions from taking over your driving, which I found very helpful. You may find this video about driving and emotions helpful as well www.youtube.com/watch.
After dismissing my citation, I learned that by taking a driver safety course, I was also eligible for a 10% discount on my auto insurance. By taking the defensive driving course I saved money on my insurance AND became a better driver. I’d say I killed two birds with one stone.
