Life’s little lessons and driving
June 29, 2011 | in The Daily DriveOn June 18th, DefensiveDriving.com was one of several sponsors at the Daddy’s Day 5K, the Save the Males Race, here in Houston, with the proceeds going toward prostrate cancer research and prevention.
Yours truly decided that not only would I sponsor the race but I would run in the 5K as well. Despite the fact it was 92 degrees and I have not run a 5K race since I was 17… over a quarter of a century ago, I did run the entire race and I finished!!!! Without dying.
But I did actually run before I ran the race and I took time to prepare myself. As with life, a race or anything else, driving takes preparation and a plan. Have you ever driven in a city where you did not know where you are going? That feeling you get when you are late to a destination? These feelings, lack of preparation or planning can lead to poor driving decisions and potentially cause an accident.
You see drivers who are not prepared every day. They are the ones who are in the far left hand lane and all of a sudden cut across (and many times off) three lanes of traffic to exit the freeway.
DefensiveDriving.com’s online driver safety programs provide plans to help you prepare to be a better driver and ultimately, how to stay in the race of life. Rushing about without a plan ofter leads to either the need to get a ticket dismissed via our ticket dismissal course because you were racing to your destination (because you did not plan) or engaging in a point reduction course because you had an accident.
Driving is not a race… you should not race, but you should prepare as you would to run a race, have a plan, practice and limit the emotions. All will help you become a better driver.
