Pay attention to the “signs”May 4, 2010 | in The Daily Drive
The family and I were in San Antonio last weekend for a little R&R and to celebrate the wife’s birthday.
San Antonio has similar signs as Houston does, throughout its major freeways and interstates, which typically advise drivers of commute times from one point to another on that road. Well, it was also Fiesta in San Antonio.
I am not familiar with the holiday of Fiesta, but apparently it is a big party. This was apparent given the language on all of the signs. Instead of the typical “15 Minutes to downtown on I-10” or “Major Accident on 90 and Houston, expect delays”, all of the signs in San Antonio were providing another message… do not drink and drive. Virtually every sign we passed focused had a message about being safe, passing the keys, no refusal laws and you drink you drive you go to jail.
Signs are part of our everyday commute, some would say they even distract us as drivers. Those large bill boards can have everything from radio stations to shipping on them.
DefensiveDriving.com focuses on the type of signs which are used to control traffic flow. Although you might take them for granted, signs are an important part of our highway and road system. They create the order by which we all should adhere, without which, there is chaos.
Our driving safety school has some great content and the safety driving video below illustrates why the signs around us are so important. Remember, pay attention to the signs – missing a stop light, stop sign or turn signal, could have very severe consequences.
