Don’t Forget about Adjusting Your Mirrors
April 29, 2011 | in Rules of the Road: Driving TipsIt’s one of the first things you’re taught when learning about driving but making sure your mirrors are positioned at optimal angles really something that you should check on a regular basis. Like many things related to driving, this is something we take for granted. Generally speaking, we look in the mirrors the first time we drive a vehicle, perhaps make a few adjustments and then never consider it again.
However, if you’ve ever taken a moment to go through that process once you’ve driven the car for awhile, you may discover that those mirror angles aren’t giving you the full range of vision that should have to ensure you’re practicing the safest possible driving techniques. The next time you get into your car, stop for a moment and check each mirror, which includes both the rear view mirrors as well as the side mirrors on both the driver’s and passenger’s side. Now go through each one and move them around a bit. It’s likely you’ll notice that just small adjustments will make a big difference in how much you’re able to view in each one.
You may want to do this again once you’re actually on the road but you must be very careful how and when do you so in order to avoid any potentially dangerous situations. Once you’ve made these adjustments, you’ll notice that you’re able see the areas around your car much more clearly than you had in the past, which certainly will make you a safer driver.
