Aim For The Best Gas Mileage Possible
June 24, 2011 | in Rules of the Road: Driving TipsOne of the biggest concerns for people that travel via driving, whether it’s a short distance or part of a long road trip, is getting better gas mileage. This is especially true as gas prices continue to rise with no sense of relief in sight. It’s something that people look for when purchasing a new vehicle and something they must factor in when considering the commute for a new job.
There are a few different ways to ensure that you’re getting the best miles per gallon possible, regardless of the vehicle you drive. First and foremost, you perform regular maintenance on your car so that it’s operating at the highest level possible. Checking all of your fluids, keeping your tires properly inflated and performing scheduled checkups will ensure that your vehicle is running as efficiently as possible, which will automatically help the gas mileage.
When you’re actually driving the car, there are a few things you can do as well. Speeding is always ill-advised but when you’re trying to keep fuel costs to a minimum, you should understand that speeds over 60mph are going to give you a lower miles per gallon figure, so you should always follow the speed limit. Planning your trips to save time and utilizing carpools when possible are other ways to keep your gas mileage down, or at least, save you money on gas in the long run. These may seem like obvious solutions and they’re not always feasible but any time you can take advantage of sharing a ride with someone, it’ll benefit everyone involved.
