Don’t Avoid Parallel Parking, Learn How
September 10, 2011 | in Rules of the Road: Driving TipsParallel parking is a skill that if not practiced, goes away quickly. In fact, many drivers learn the basic techniques as a part of driver’s education and if they don’t live in a city that necessitates frequent parallel parking, never use it again. When those drivers do encounter a situation where they need to parallel park, they often park further away just to avoid the embarrassment of not doing it correctly or don’t want to risk an accident.
But the truth is even those who live in bigger cities where parallel parking is more common often don’t know how to do it well or efficiently. It’s actually a very simple technique. it’s just not a muscle that’s flexed enough. If you can avoid ever having to do it, then perhaps you’ll be fine but there’s no reason that you can’t have it in your bag of tricks when it’s needed.
When you’d like a refresher on how to parallel park or other techniques that you may not have used often since getting your license, then it’s time to sign up for an online defensive driving class. Doing so gives you an opportunity to be reminded of these useful driving skills so that you’re a more prepared driver (or parker, as the case may be). Parallel parking is just one example of a lesson that can be learned in a defensive driving class and one that will save you a tremendous amount of time in the future once you’ve got it mastered.
