Don’t Ignore Road Signs That Aren’t Familiar
September 21, 2011 | in Rules of the Road: Driving TipsHave you ever been driving and come across a road sign that you didn’t recognize or understand? What did you do? If you’re like most drivers, you noticed it, ignored it and didn’t give it a second thought. After all, if you’ve never come across the sign before, how important can it be, right? But if you’re driving in an unfamiliar area, particularly in a different state, then that sign could be alerting you to a regional danger or regulation that you need to know.
Of course, it’s not very feasible for you to stop right there, pull over and try to determine the meaning of the sign. That being said, there are some steps you can take to educate yourself so that you’re a more prepared and safer driver. An internet search could give you some information about the sign in question but searching for something visual isn’t always the easiest thing to do. Another option would be to ask someone that is local who could provide some insight.
However, the best way to be prepared is by taking a defensive driving class. Chances are, that road sign was covered in your driver education but it’s been years since then and it’s time for a refresher. A driver safety course will remind you of a number of techniques that you’ve forgotten about and probably teach you a few new ones. Not only will you be a safer driver but completing an online defensive driving class can lead to a reduction in your insurance rates.
