It Takes Just a Minute to Refill Washer Fluid…
April 16, 2011 | in Rules of the Road: Driving TipsIt’s a common practice for drivers to get a notification light for their car while driving and to put off attending to that problem for awhile unless it’s something that seems urgent. This is a mistake that should be avoided. Those alerts are part of the design of the car for a reason and just because it seems like you’ve got some time before the problem becomes critical doesn’t mean you should take advantage of that time.
One warning that it is frequently ignored is the “low washer fluid” light. When you see that light go on, you know that you’ve got some washer fluid left and unless you’re looking through a particularly dirty windshield at the moment, it’s easy to dismiss. You’ll be reminded of the need for new washer fluid regularly but it won’t be until that time when you really need it that you’ll regret not having dealt with the problem sooner. It seems like a minor problem and has an even simpler fix but not having a clean windshield can drastically reduce your vision while driving, which in turn makes you less aware of your surroundings and puts you and other drivers at risk.
The same issue can occur when you notice that a wiper blade needs replaced. Both of these problems take just a minute to rectify and in the case of washer fluid, you probably have some in the garage already. If you take the time to deal with issues like this as soon as possible, you’ll be able to avoid being in a situation where not having done so puts you in a dangerous predicament.
