Keep Important Documents in Your Car
March 7, 2011 | in Rules of the Road: Driving TipsHaving the knowledge to drive isn’t the only thing that is needed once we hop in a car and turn the key. Important documents are also necessary, and without them, you could find yourself in a heap of trouble if you happen to be pulled over by law enforcement or if you happen to be involved in an accident and are in need of your insurance company and other car information. First and foremost, always have your driver’s license on your person (wallet or purse is the usual place for a driver’s license); this is perhaps one document which shouldn’t be left in your car, but without a doubt, it probably is a good strategy to leave other important documents in your glove box.
The most recent registration of the vehicle and your most recent insurance document are vital and should be kept in your car. In some states, it may also be necessary to have recent emissions test results. Undoubtedly, these documents are the most important as failure to show these upon the request of a police officer may result in a fine or even worse depending on if you have a number of other driving violations on your record. These documents are also necessary in the event of an accident as you will no doubt need to contact your insurance company as soon as possible following the accident.
Aside from keeping these important documents in your car, it’s also a good idea to make sure that they are well-organized and up-to-date. Knowing exactly where your documents are will help out greatly if you are pulled over or are involved in an accident.
