Parents Need to Talk to Kids about Safe Driving…
October 13, 2011 | in Rules of the Road: Driving TipsThe high school years are chalked full of new experiences- one of these is the experience of getting your license and getting behind the wheel for the very first time! A great feeling of freedom can come over a young adult after getting his or her license, but what is often lacking in these young adults is a feeling of responsibility. This is where the parents need to come in.
Parents need to talk to their kids about safe driving for obvious reasons. We can all remember a time when we acted a little bit more recklessly and had feelings of invincibility- and this was right around the time that we obtained our driver’s license, but this is exactly why parents should reinforce the idea of safe driving with their kids. After getting a license a lot of young adults will feel the need to drop some of the things that they learned in their driver’s education course, but with helpful and sincere reminders from parents, young adults will be more likely to adhere to safe driving behavior while avoiding behavior which could lead to costly traffic tickets or worse.
If you have a son or daughter who recently received his or her driver’s license, then do the right thing and talk to them about staying safe on the road and obeying traffic rules. You’ll not only be helping out your son or daughter, but also the others who will be sharing the road with your child.
