Resist the Urge to Litter While Driving
April 20, 2011 | in Rules of the Road: Driving TipsMost drivers aim to keep the interior of their vehicle as clean as possible. Of course, there are exceptions, as anyone that has ever gotten a ride with someone in a car that has a floor that is hidden by trash can attest to. However, this desire to keep your car clean shouldn’t come at the expense of the environment, which is why if you’ve ever found yourself with the urge to toss something out the window while driving, you should resist doing so.
We’ve made big strides regarding this problem over the years but it continues to be an issue despite the many signs and reminders that populate the side of the road. Those that continue to justify their littering may think that something small, such as a gum wrapper, is insignificant. But as with nearly any problem we face as a society, each of these “insignificant” actions add up to a larger problem much in the same way if everyone pitched in just a little bit, big changes could be made that are positive.
The truth is, keeping your car clean is easy if you’re simply diligent. Keeping a trash bag where you can easily reach it while driving can get you in the habit of putting the garbage there instead of tossing it on the floor. And if you just took a few seconds each time you stopped your car, either at the gas station or your destination, you could easily maintain a clean interior. Once you get used to doing this, it’ll become a habit that you won’t even think about each time.
