Schools in Session
August 25, 2010 | in The Daily DriveJust a reminder for most folk, but school started yesterday. School generally means a dramatic increase in traffic in and around the school, typically during the times most of us are headed to school. Plan a little additional time and leave earlier, because the delays are going to happen.
Also, please know the laws changed last fall and you will get a ticket if you are talking on or texting with your cell phone in a school zone, so hang up and drive and watch your speed. Our kids depend on you and my course will not be able to help with point reduction or ticket dismissal, in the event you get a ticket in a school zone. Back to school is an exciting time for families, let’s make sure we make it a safe time as well. Speaking of families, there is a great deal on Groupon today for family fun at Itz. With all the focus on distracted driving related to cell phones and texting, an interesting study just came out related to animals and distracted driving. This is a HUGE problem and people just do not seem to realize how big a problem this has always been. Remember Stephen King? 40% of the US population own a pet and of that 40% – two thirds of the surveyed group admitted to petting or ENTERTAINING their pets while driving? Only 17% surveyed acknowledged the use of pet restraint driving devices … Let’s see US Population is approximately 308 million, – let’s say that only 1/3 of that number can drive, which is conservative, 92 Million drivers and of that 40% own a pet or 37 Million and of that 75% admit distracted driving with a pet which equals … 28 Million drivers entertaining pets… feel safe? Please take a mature driving approach, put your dog in the back and not on your lap.
Now for something completely different… I like this video, just for the car sounds, but the guy really needs to slow down –
