Flip Flops and driving, is it safe?

Posted on by Defensive Driving | in Drive Like ME

1) Constant Need For Adjustment

Everyone knows that flip flops are comfortable, but unsecured. While driving, they could easily slide down, causing you to constantly reach down or move your feet to readjust the fit. This causes you to be distracted from the road, and could cause a wreck even if you just take your eyes off the road for a split second.

2) Could Get Stuck Under Gas Pedal

What if your shoe slides off when you are trying to switch between the gas and brake pedals? What if you are unable to press the brake pedal because the shoe is stuck underneath it? Who’s to say there will be enough time for you to remove the shoe? What if traffic is heavy at this time? Are you willing to risk your life just because the flip flops provide conformability?

2) It is Illegal in Some States

Some state prohibit drivers from wearing flip flops because of the risks it poses. If you were to get pulled over and the officer notices that you are in flip flops, you could get a citation.
