Borrowing a car in Michigan just got a lot easier. General Motors has announced the name for its new ride-sharing and car-sharing venture, “Maven.”

The service will allow users to find and reserve vehicles for themselves, using their smartphones.Starting with Ann Arbor, Michigan, GM already has 21 parking spaces around the University of Michigan campus. These will be filled with GM cars, available for use by whomever.

It is intended that this service will soon spread to other major cities around the country. Whether Maven becomes a big player in this scene remains to be seen, but as more of these services emerge, soon we won’t even need to be car owners to be able to drive.
