Texas Winter Road Trip Ideas 2019

Posted on by Defensive Driving | in Defensive Driving Tips

Starting around mid-October through November things in Texas start to cool off, and it’s finally possible to be without A/C for a change. So we put together a list of some road-trip options across the state for planning a winter getaway or day out.

1) Big Bend National Park — Located in West Texas, away from Texas’ large metros is Big Bend National Park. It’s over 800,000 acres of mountains, canyons, wildlife and everything else you could look for in an outdoor adventure. November begins their peak season, as most visitors choose to wait until it cools off to visit the desert. The vast park offers something for anyone who appreciates outdoor activities. Everything from scenic drives, hikes, biking, fishing, horseback riding, stargazing, camping and endless other possibilities. The scenery feels like you’ve left civilization entirely.

2) Fredericksburg — With both outdoor and indoor activities, Fredericksburg is a popular location for Texans looking for a quiet winter trip. The quaint town embraces their German roots and traditions, and is an incredible place to spend the holidays. It’s a great destination for a relaxing weekend and holiday shopping. For those who need a little more action to liven things up, Enchanted Rock Natural area is closely nearby for hiking, climbing, camping and more! Stay at a cozy bed and breakfast or make your way out into nature.

3)Renfest Texas — Beginning in October through Christmas annually, The Texas Renaissance Festival is packed full of sights, smells, tastes and activities. Located between Houston & College Station in Todd Mission, this annual festival is celebrating its 45th year! A bit hard to describe, it’s something you kind of need to experience for yourself. You can find out more about Renfest on their site.

4) The Gaylord Texan — Maybe you’re looking for something indoor for your winter trip. I can’t say we blame you. Gaylord Texan is a hotel and resort in Grapevine that replicates a lot of iconic Texas sights within their 4+ acre indoor Hotel & Convention Center. You can see some historic Texas sights from the comfort of the indoors. Also nearby is the Great Wolf Lodge, an indoor waterpark that’s great for the kids and perfect if it’s too cold out. Or just relax and treat yourself to their Spa or indoor Riverwalk. If it’s nice enough, they have their own water park on site as well!

The reality is that Texas has something to offer for any season, no matter what your interests are. Outdoor or indoor, adventure or relaxing, there’s options for everyone. We just wanted to offer a few ideas to get you started thinking about the next few months. Stay tuned for our holiday suggestions!
