These Road Signs Are Sure to Make You Do a Double Take

Posted on by Defensive Driving | in Defensive Driving Online, Everyday Driver, Rules of the Road: Driving Tips

You may have learned from defensive driving school online or from a driving school near you some road signs that most people are already familiar with. Common road signs we can see are “STOP,” “SLOW DOWN,” “ONE-WAY,” and more. These road signs give us a quick hint of what to expect ahead so we know what to do next.

If you have been driving for a very long time already, common road signs may no longer look significant. For you, it’s no big deal to see them on the road ways. As a matter of fact, they’ve become so common that they don’t even phase you anymore. There are some bizarre signs out in the roadways today though that will make drivers do a double take, check them out below!

One-Way Or Two-Way?

Maybe you’ve seen a one way sign as they are common everywhere, but two way? The strange thing is that for the same road, there is another one-way sign that points to the opposite direction. If you are turning left to a one-way road because you see the one-way road sign pointing to left, make sure the sign is not alone.

Very Precise Speed Limit

Have you ever encountered a road sign that asks for a precise speed limit? Usually, we come across a speed limit sign such as “55 mph.” What if you see this sign that says, “14 and 1/2 mph?” You will surely begin to mind all speed limit road signs when you encounter such.

Very Precise But Very Slow Speed Limit

We’ve just seen how there are slow speed limits that are too funny to think about. How about driving even slower at a speed limit of 4 and 1/2 mph? It’s no joke. You can see this sign in Salem, Ore. Furthermore, you can see another sign below the 4 and 1/2 mph speed limit sign. The sign says, “SLOW” with a drawing of children walking. You may wonder how you can slow down further while driving at 4 and 1/2 mph. Perhaps, both signs came from a single sign that was broken apart.

Stop Or Go?

While there is a strange sign that says “ONE-WAY” pointing to both opposite directions, this sign surely makes you consider who made it. One big sign at the top says, “STOP.” Below is another sign that says, “NO STOPPING ANY TIME.” Which will you choose? Anyone who will see this will surely stop. It makes you even wonder if this sign is enforceable?

Parking Limit of 5 Minutes Only

At Heartland Cataract and Laser Surgery Center in Bellevue, NE, there was a parking sign that says, “SURGERY PARKING ONLY 5-MINUTE LIMIT.” You can check if it is still there. If the one who put that sign was serious about it, the surgeon could be the fastest surgeon in the world. The best parking sign they should have put instead is a “NO PARKING” sign.

Road Sign in the River?

If you see this road sign along a river bank or a lagoon, it is up to you whether you follow it or not. The sign says, “No Motor Vehicles Beyond This Point.” Have you ever seen a motor vehicle in the river or in the sea?

Road Sign in Volcanic Land

If road signs in the water may still be possible for amphibians, you will surely wonder how possible for any vehicle to see this one. This road sign simply says, “Road Closed.” By the way, the road sign is in the middle of volcanic land with dry lava. Will you drive there if the road sign is removed?

These road signs may be funny, but there must have been some reasons why they put them there. Whether the reasons are reasonable or not, it’s not important. Just drive safely.
